After 2 nights in Timaru, we decided to head down to Dunedin, a lovely contemporary city near the south of the south island. The drive down was beautiful and took us down some lovely windy roads following the coast.
We stopped on the way in Oamaru in the search of coffee and a better frying pan, our current one was sticking none stop! We managed to find a charity shop and got ourselves a much better pan, so we went in search of a beach. Beach road was (surprisingly) a great idea, as it took us down miles of beaches with beautiful views of the coast line.
On the drive we came across a lovely viewing point, with views back to Oamaru and the bay, and took the opportunity to snap a few photos.
After several hours driving, and criss-crossing over the train tracks multiple times, we finally arrived in Dunedin, but with no idea on where we would stay! After a quick supermarket shop, and a check of the weather, we decided that we would be better in a hostel for the night, so got ourselves booked in to Chalet Backpackers hostel, and took the chance to catch up on washing etc, as well as charging our many devices.
We headed out to the town for a couple of drinks whilst the weather was nice, and even grabbed a cocktail or 2!
The following day, the rain had come back, and so we spent the day exploring Dunedin Museum, a fascinating museum with a rich history of the local area and the ways in which the first settlers here lived their lives.
As the weather was showing no signs of improving, we headed back to the hostel and spent the night relaxing in our room, not really doing much, which I think we both needed at this point!
