20.11.23 - Peel Forest to Timaru

After a night of constant rain, we decided to move on from Peel Forest in search of warmer weather, and decided on the beach town of Timaru

We packed up the tent in record timing, and set off in search of breakfast and coffee. We'd passed a few cafes on the way to the campground, and found Geraldine Farm shop and Café. We both had Bacon and Eggs on toast, with some lovely homemade bread and fresh free range eggs.

After a hearty breakfast, we indulged a little in the farm shop attached to the café and got ourselves bacon, eggs and bread for breakfast the next few days. All the staff throughout the café and shop were very friendly, as is everyone we've encountered so far in New Zealand.

From here, we drove on to Timaru, and whilst following Google Maps, we ended up on an unsealed road, which took us past a Lime Kiln, rather unexpectedly. It was a nice reminder of home, as on Greenhow Hill there is an old lime kiln also, and it's one of Greenhow's 2 attractions!

After a lovely little detour, we ended up back on the main road, and eventually got to Timaru just after lunchtime, but too early to check into the campsite, so we headed to the local lighthouse, one of the smallest we'd seen!

We took some photos of the local area, and had a walk around the city centre, then we headed on to the campsite, got checked in, and let the tent dry for a while in the sun!

With our camp for the night set up, and the temperature rising, we headed for a shower, got nice and clean, and then enjoyed the sunshine! After a while though, we ended up with a furry friend joining us briefly, before departing after realising we wouldn't feed them!

With everything dry, and ourselves well fed, we headed to bed for the night, deciding that as the weather was so lovely, we would stay another night!
